Scopes in mechanical engineering

There are many branches of Engineering like CS,IT,electrical,electronics, mechanical,etc. In recent years, new domains like textile engineering and mechatronics are also being introduced. Further,there are sub-domains of each of the branch.In this column,I will be discussing sub-domains of mechanical engineering.

Here is the list:

•AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY

It includes the manufacturing and setting up of four wheeler cars,bikes auto-rickshaws,trucks tractors,buses,etc. It can be regarded as the one of the fastest growing industries.From designing to manufacturing,it covers the large area. Some of the top automobile companies like Tesla,Mercedes are looking for bright minds for research and development in the field of transport systems like driverless cars,maglev trains and pod based transportation system.In coming few decades,it won't be wondering for humans to drive flying cars.

•Designing

This is also one of the vital areas in Mechanical Engineering which includes the 2D sketching of infrastructures and converting it into 3D with the help of designing softwares like CATIA,AutoCAD,Solidworks,Hypermesh,etc.

• ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION

With day-to-day improvement in Science and Technology the scope of robotics and automation have also widened.Days are not so far when robots will be seeing working together along with human beings in most of the companies. The development of artificial intelligence(AI),Augmented reality(AR) and Virtual reality(VR) further seems to widen the scope of robotics and automation.

•Aerospace industry

 From developing flying cars to reusable satellites as well as rockets,the Aerospace industry is not far behind when it comes to innovations and inventions with the development of Science and Technology.The need of skilled mechanical and aerospace engineers are becoming inevitable to come up with more efficient aerodynamic designs of aircrafts the expansion in this field of mechanical engineering also seems to have no limitations.

•Power and Metal plants industry

This industry proves to be one of the major contributor to India's economy. It includes the iron and steel industry, chemical industries,pharmaceutical industries,fertilizers industries,oil refineries and many more. Mechanical engineers are hired in these kind of industries in order to look after the strength and durability of pipelines which are laid down to transport the material from one pipe to different pipe in chemicals,pharmaceutical and fertilizers industries. One can get large sized turbines,compressors and heat exchangers in these industries which are being operated and supervised under the surveillance of mechanical engineers.

•IT Industry

One should not be wondering if Mechanical Engineering students or students from other branches are get placed in IT jobs.This can be achieved if someone has the basic knowledge of programming languages like C and python along with good communication skills in English as in the most cases clients of IT firms are people of countries like USA,UK,etc.
